rudyreyesultimatesurvivalalaskaI am always proud when my Marine brothers and sisters excel!  There are few Marines who have done better than my friend Rudy Reyes. You have likely read about him in the book Generation Kill or watched him in the mini-series of the same name (in which he played himself).  He has also been in Ultimate Survival Alaska and numerous other roles.  Today I learned that Rudy was going to play the lead role in “Inside Fighter” and “John Came Home”.  The film is currently in production and is looking for more funding!  If you are so inclined…think about contributing to the project. Read more about the film here.

50% of profits from John Came Home go to “The Raider Project”  As stated on their website: ”

“The Raider Project is a non-profit organization based out of Holly Ridge, NC. Our mission is to connect with MARSOC and Reconnaissance veterans to help them transition smoothly, peacefully and successfully into the private sector. We do this through PTSD and TBI counseling, unconventional brain treatments for disorders of the brain and central nervous system, short term financial assistance, resume coaching and small business support, get-away retreats and fishing trips as well as community sports programs.”

MARSOCRIPIf you have not heard a Helo crash claimed the lives of 7 MARSOC Marines and 4 Army Soldiers last night.  I received the message below today in a private FB group.  Many of our members are/were MARSOC members and we are all brothers in arms….I know John (PayPal administrator) and can assure all of the funds will go directly to our Brother’s family to help them through this time of need.  If you can give anything (even $1), please think about helping.  Thank you in advance!!

“As many of you already know, we have just lost 7 MARSOC operators in a helo crash off the coast of Eglin AFB in Florida. Names are not being released until all next of kin have been notified. I’m told by one of the operators that was on the adjacent helo that most of the team members had wives and kids. I’m setting this hasty post up so we can quickly start generating funds to help support the families in any way we possibly can. I would do a gofundme but they get a 10% cut and I want every penny to go to our Brother’s loved ones who needless to say will be very devastated. Please give whatever you can and just remember, no matter how large or small the donation is, every penny helps. The funds will be going to JJ Brown‘s paypal which is johnbrown691@gmail.com and every cent of the donations will be dispersed to the families on behalf of BDC in a to be determined method.”

I am honored to announce the formation of a new charitable organization called the R&S Foundation.  The R&S Foundation (named for Recon & Sniper) was formed to help our veteran Brothers and Sisters in need.  Many are unaware that 22 veterans commit suicide per day.  Many more struggle with physical, emotional and financial challenges.  The Recon, Scout/Sniper, SARC, and MARSOC communities are in need of a foundation to help those who are in need of support.  The R&S Foundation was born of a simple idea.  Several years ago a Reconnaissance Sniper created a loose affiliation of Snipers, Recon Marines, SARCs, and MARSOC Marines which began informally helping each other.  From this seed of an early idea some brothers from the community took the proverbial bull by the horns and created the R&S Foundation.   Currently, the group is putting together the ‘non profit’ packet and have seated the Board of Directors (I am privileged to have been asked to be on the BOD).  If you get a chance, please take a look at the Facebook page and give us a ‘like’.  You can reach the Foundation by emailing; info@reconsniperfoundation.org

2d_Force_Recon_largeAn old friend, and Marine I served with, has recently published an article in the Marine Corps Gazette on Force Reconnaissance.  The article gives a great overview of the value of Force Reconnaissance to the commander. You can read the article here.

On this Memorial Day please don’t forget to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
