Two days ago I wrote a blog post related to the DNC. The post has since gone viral and over 4,000 people have commented. While the vast majority of comments have been positive, and supportive there are people who disagree with my position. That is expected and part of our great nation. Some of these people have made valid arguments and have been polite and professional. While this post was intended to make a point to a small audience it has created a social experiment.
I have truly been taken aback however by sheer number of vulgar, vitriolic comments stereotyping me and all Republicans and, in particular, Trump supporters. Let me be clear. There were some nasty comments by Trump supporters but not at the level of the other side. Even when I wrote my post on Mrs. Palin the vast majority of ‘right wing’ comments simply accused me of being a ‘closet democrat’ but did not launch attacks like these. I want to share some of the comments from Hillary Clinton supporters:
- The Republican Party is a terrorist group
- Go F%%K Yourself
- You are a F%%king racist
- You are a F%ggot
- You are Uneducated
- You believe Gays shouldn’t have any rights and everyone should carry an AR 15 to work
- Do I really have to guess what you look like you inbred sister f%%king hillbilly
- You piece of garbage, trash, facist, racist, zenophobe
- When did we become a nation of redneck hillbillies?
- Trump and his supporters, the fact that they are a bunch of racist and bigots
- You would not have made that comment if the Khans had been White and Christians
- You all need to stop clinging to your God and guns
- Please tell me where to meet you so I can spit in your face
- I want to slap you
- You are a traitor
- You are retarded
The list goes on and on…these (including the physical threats) are from the ‘Tolerant left’ in response to the fact that I said I would vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. With regard to the White and Christian comment I pointed out that I had written a blistering piece on Sarah Palin who is both White and Christian. This did not seem to matter. The coup de grace however is this gem:
- “You are a f%%cking racist Chris.”
- I responded politely asking the reader to query everything I have written and find where I was racist. Her reply?
- “Just because your posts and other comments are not racist does not excuse you from being a racist.” (emphasis added)
So simply by virtue of supporting someone that this person does not agree with paints one as a racist. In short you are guilty of racism with zero evidence until they “excuse you” from that label? This is the height of intolerance from the tolerant Hillary Supporters.
I think Hillary Clinton’s campaign should consider adopting the 1980’s Rush song SubDivisions. One of the lyrics says:
“Conform or be cast out!”
This is the divisiveness and intolerance in our country today. If you do not agree with the other and conform, then you should be cast out or denigrated. So, why am I voting for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton? Simple the same reason everyone chooses one candidate over another. Satisficing. Satisficing is simply prioritizing your criteria and choosing from the best available options. Some people value social issues more, others may value economic issues. It is these points on which we actually vote.
Has Donald Trump said things with which I don’t agree? Absolutely. That being said, he has not compromised national security nor lied to congress about his actions. He has not allowed the death of 4 Americans (my view). These are the primary criteria on which I am voting. End of story. This doe not make me a racist, bigot, or anything else other than a voter who values one option over the other.
Chris Mark Endorses Marco Rubio for President! February 6, 2016

OK..since my latest brushes with fame on CNN and the National Review maybe the idea of me ‘Endorsing’ any candidate, much less Senator Marco Rubio, is a bit overblown 😉 That being said, I do want to post about why I think the Mr. Marco Rubio is the best option for President in 2016!
I have watched every presidential debate and every ‘town hall’ and I have come to the conclusion that I believe Marco Rubio is the candidate that is best suited to lead our great nation for the next 4 (or 8) years.
While there are no doubt policies that Marco and I disagree upon, the concept fostered by Nobel Prize recipient Herbert Simon of Satisficing comes into play. While we may not all agree on all issues, we evaluate alternative and decide upon the best option. For this reason, I can say that whether I agree with Mr. Rubio on all issue is irrelevant as I agree with his position on the major issues and that is more important than minor disagreements. (thank you Auburn University for my BA in Poli Sci!)
I think Marco represents more of what I believe that our country needs with a conservative executive than any other candidate. So, what is conservatism? As detailed by Mr. Rubio conservatism consists of three primary points: 1) Free Market 2) National Security and 3) Limited Government. (particularly Federal Government). I agree with all three of these points.
More importantly I find Marco to be both honest, smart, fair, and a man of conviction. arco Rubio is clearly very smart and very well read on the relevant issues. Unlike some of the other candidates I do not hear a lot of “sound bites” in his responses and he will speak to the issues with both passion and experience. I listed to Mr. Rubio talk about the issue in the middle east and instead of regurgitating the same tired nonsense of “carpet bomb them” he spoke intelligently of the issues between Sunni and Shia Muslims and how that impacts national defense! This is not an easy topic to learn and takes a lot of study to understand. This demonstrates to me that Mr. Rubio is the type of President I think we need!
Some may see Mr. Rubio’s passion and his tendency to speak quickly and directly as less than ‘presidential’ but I see a person who is in the race for the right reasons! We need more passion, intellect, and frankness in the office. While many have emotion and passion for the job, I like Mr. Rubio’s intellect and education. I have yet to hear him asked a question where he simply regurgitates some sound bite for political expediency. I like people who stand tall and admit mistakes and own their flaws. Marco even made a reference to his boots that were ‘too tall’ (I could use a pair of those, as well)..
I am using my 15 minutes (14 are already spent so only 1 minute left) of ‘fame’ to Endorse Marco Rubio for President of the United States!

I wrote an open letter to Sarah Palin two days ago and it has since generated almost 400,000 views. While most of the comments have been polite and even somewhat spirited at times there are a few folks who have taken to name calling and insults. For likely the first time in my life I was called a Democratic Socialist for not supporting Sarah Palin! Here is my view. I am an American. I vote on issues but consider myself a Republican. I am socially more liberal than most in the party but fiscally conservative and am an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution.
I believe our system has become so divisive that debate and discourse have given away to name calling and insults. My letter to Mrs. Palin was intended to shed light on a serious condition. I would have written the same letter to a Democrat. In fact, you can see my latest post is one in which I comment on Michelle Obama. I believe that our leaders should be held accountable. I have written articles for the National Review and been interviewed on NewsMax. I suspect most would classify me as a Republican

I apologize for using some ClickBait to get your attention but I wanted to talk about “The Other Woman” in the 2016 US Presidential Race. Carly Fiorina. I watched the early debate without any real interest until I heard Carly speak. Carly Fiorina was impressive (IMHO) in the debates and really got my attention! The dig on Carly Fiorina has been a “fake scandal” (see how I did that? Using a Clinton cliche?:) related to her role as CEO of HP and her ‘laying off’ of 30,000 employees. Like many readers of this blog, I lived through the Dot Com Crash. At the time I worked for the World’s largest Hosting provider (over 4,000 employees). After 12 rounds of lay-offs the company went bankrupt. The idea that it is unacceptable for the CEO (any CEO) of HP to restructure during this time is laughable. CEO’s get paid to make tough choices and sometimes those choices affect employees. CEOs of public companies have a fiduciary duty to shareholders. This means that she is legally required to act in the interests of the shareholders first. Not doing so can actually be a crime. This is business 101.
If you have not had a chance to watch the debates, please take the time as I believe it will be worth the investment. Carly was impressive and, more importantly to me, she was earnest and had a plan. She was direct, articulate, presidential and demonstrated she understood the issues. I hope to see more.
