Dear Mr. Khan,
I want to preface this letter by stating that I respect your son’s sacrifice for this great nation. By all accounts, he is a true hero that sacrificed himself in service to our country. For that I am thankful.
As a veteran, I watched your comments at the Democratic National Convention with a mixture of sadness, and anger. The United States has a military comprised of volunteers. Every single member has made the conscious choice to join the military and serve. There is not a single service member who has been forced into service. It is important for all service members (and apparently, their families) to understand that service to this great nation does not imbue one with special privileges or rights. I found your comments troubling when you said: “Have you ever been to Arlington cemetery? Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending the United States of America. You will see all faiths, genders and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”
Does it matter whether Mr. Trump has sacrificed “…nothing and no one?”…has Ms. Clinton “..sacrificed” for this nation? How about Mr. Obama? Your comment stating that Mr. Trump “…has sacrifice no one” is alarming. Are you intimating that YOU sacrificed? Sir, your son willingly sacrificed himself. As a father I cannot imagine the pain you must feel but his sacrifice is his own. He was not forced to serve.
I am troubled that you would allow a party that has little more than contempt for the US Service Member to parade you into the DNC to denounce Donald Trump. Did you watch when protesters at the DNC booed and heckled Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Florent Groberg? Did you notice your party interrupting the moment of silence for slain police officers? Your own hypocrisy in not denouncing these acts and instead using the DNC as a platform to make a political point is disgraceful. The simple fact is that whether one served or sacrificed does not give greater power to their statements. One vote is as valuable as another. That sir, is why our Country is great. Your condemnation of one person for a statement while standing idly as your party disparages veterans and police officers is the height of hypocrisy.
To conflate the need to prevent potential terrorists from entering our country with the belief that ‘all Muslims’ should be banned is simply wrong and disingenuous. As a reminder, Mr. Trump said: ” “Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,” The irony of your son’s own death at the hands of these very people in Iraq should not be ignored. I have little doubt that your son would have recognized the need to protect our country from these very people. In fact, he held is own troops back so that he could check on a suspicious car. Your son understood sacrifice and how to protect “his people”…’his soldiers’….’his fellow Americans’…
As you continue to make the media circuit and bask in the glow of affection cast upon you by a party that has little regard for your son’s own sacrifice, and veterans in general, I would ask you to consider your comments and your position more closely.
Respectfully,
Chris Mark

White privilege…and me. July 20, 2016

I was talking today about white privilege and how I did not agree with the premise…I was then challenged…here are some questions I was asked…
- “Have ou ever been in a state home because your parents were in jail?”
- “Have you ever watched your mom taken to jail?”
- “Have you ever visited your parents in jail”
- “Have you ever lived in a battered women’s shelter?”
- “Have you ever been a minority in your school?”
- “Have you ever been raised in foster homes?”
- “Have you ever had to steal food as a kid to eat?”
- “Have you ever been beaten up for being a minority?”
- “Have you ever work the same pair of shoes for a full year?”
- “Have you ever been homeless?”
Many reading this probably think this is referring to someone challenging me. This is actually my life. The answer I give to all of these questions is YES! This is how I grew up as a boy.
I have been ALL of these..I have been all of these and experienced all of this. I grew up VERY poor and a minority in many neighborhoods. I learned to fight early and often. I have indeed watched my mom taken to jail and visited her speaking over a phone between a glass wall. I have been in a state home, lived in a battered women’s shelter and was raised in foster homes. I have watched my step-father taken to prison..I never saw him again….Why do I disclose this? Simple. These people who cry about “White privilege” need to get off their proverbial asses and actually do something positive in life. Don’t cry and complain that life is unfair and that those who get ahead only do so due to some ‘privilege’. We have all felt struggles. There are numerous people who are ‘disadvantaged’ in life and go forth and make a positive life.
Recently, I read about a Black advocate for ‘free tuition’ whose father made $1 million per year. I laughed. This guy was raised in a much, much more affluent home than I was yet he was playing the ‘race card’ to get attention.
Look…life aint’ easy for anyone. Some people have advantages and others don’t. that is life. Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths while others have to steal to eat. The point is that people should quite crying about ‘privilege’ and get off their asses to do something positive. Michelle Obama was raised in the South Side of Chicago! She certainly did not have “white privilege” yet she went to Princeton then Harvard!
My point is not that some people are disadvantaged in life. I was. My point is that blindly labeling all success as ‘privilege’ of any sort ignores what people strive to attain. Are there advantaged white people? Sure..are there advantaged black people? yes…ultimately, we all need to work hard and take ownership of our lives.
Thanks for reading…

President Obama – “Clean up your own backyard…”- Elvis Presley July 18, 2016

Recently, after yet ANOTHER police ambush, President Obama has seen fit to implore Americans to: “Tamp down inflammatory rhetoric”. He stated that: “We need to temper our words and open our hearts … all of us,”.
Mr. President, I am afraid you are a day late and a dollar short on this point! In watching you now try to put the proverbial genie back in the bottle, I am reminded of one of my favorite Elvis songs – Clean up your own backyard. The song starts with the following:
“Back porch preacher preaching at me
Acting like he wrote the golden rules
Shaking his fist and speeching at me
Shouting from his soap box like a fool
Come Sunday morning he’s lying in bed
With his eye all red, with the wine in his head
Wishing he was dead when he oughta be
Heading for Sunday school”
The Obama administration and its followers have a history of using Race and race baiting to advance a political agenda within the United States. When this inflammatory speech begins to compel people to act with violence suddenly “WE ALL” need to temper OUR words? Mr. Obama and his followers have fanned the flames of racism for years and now that our country is at a boiling point, he is wanting to lay blame at the feet of those who had nothing to do with the issues. Chris Mark Endorses Marco Rubio for President! February 6, 2016

OK..since my latest brushes with fame on CNN and the National Review maybe the idea of me ‘Endorsing’ any candidate, much less Senator Marco Rubio, is a bit overblown 😉 That being said, I do want to post about why I think the Mr. Marco Rubio is the best option for President in 2016!
I have watched every presidential debate and every ‘town hall’ and I have come to the conclusion that I believe Marco Rubio is the candidate that is best suited to lead our great nation for the next 4 (or 8) years.
While there are no doubt policies that Marco and I disagree upon, the concept fostered by Nobel Prize recipient Herbert Simon of Satisficing comes into play. While we may not all agree on all issues, we evaluate alternative and decide upon the best option. For this reason, I can say that whether I agree with Mr. Rubio on all issue is irrelevant as I agree with his position on the major issues and that is more important than minor disagreements. (thank you Auburn University for my BA in Poli Sci!)
I think Marco represents more of what I believe that our country needs with a conservative executive than any other candidate. So, what is conservatism? As detailed by Mr. Rubio conservatism consists of three primary points: 1) Free Market 2) National Security and 3) Limited Government. (particularly Federal Government). I agree with all three of these points.
More importantly I find Marco to be both honest, smart, fair, and a man of conviction. arco Rubio is clearly very smart and very well read on the relevant issues. Unlike some of the other candidates I do not hear a lot of “sound bites” in his responses and he will speak to the issues with both passion and experience. I listed to Mr. Rubio talk about the issue in the middle east and instead of regurgitating the same tired nonsense of “carpet bomb them” he spoke intelligently of the issues between Sunni and Shia Muslims and how that impacts national defense! This is not an easy topic to learn and takes a lot of study to understand. This demonstrates to me that Mr. Rubio is the type of President I think we need!
Some may see Mr. Rubio’s passion and his tendency to speak quickly and directly as less than ‘presidential’ but I see a person who is in the race for the right reasons! We need more passion, intellect, and frankness in the office. While many have emotion and passion for the job, I like Mr. Rubio’s intellect and education. I have yet to hear him asked a question where he simply regurgitates some sound bite for political expediency. I like people who stand tall and admit mistakes and own their flaws. Marco even made a reference to his boots that were ‘too tall’ (I could use a pair of those, as well)..
I am using my 15 minutes (14 are already spent so only 1 minute left) of ‘fame’ to Endorse Marco Rubio for President of the United States!
